![]()
Master's Degree students of Dostoevsky Omsk State University have undertaken an internship and training at the Russian Center of Science and Culture in Slovenia (Ljubljana) several times. They were to prepare lessons for the groups with different language levels (from elementary to advanced), organization of non-academic events related to memorable dates celebrated in Russia (Cinematography Day, anniversary of Fyodor Dostoevsky, Anton Chekhov). Our participants remembered the Open Day for Slovenian graduating pupils with the presentation about Omsk and Dostoevsky Omsk State University. The last mention is important, as the promotion of Russian education and recruitment of foreign students in the Russian higher education institutions is considered to be one of the main government tasks.

The review of a field expert on a Master’s Degree programme ‘Russian as a Foreign Language’ (main field of study ‘Philology’)
Teaching Russian those who are not native speakers is one of the attractive directions in language pedagogy. It is pleasant to know that in educational space of our region there is a Master’s Degree programme, one and only in Omsk, training professional teachers of Russian as a foreign language, that has been successfully functioning for many years.
By force of duty I often meet Master’s Degree students of the Faculty of Philology and Media Communications who have chosen this professional programme. As a rule, meetings start with the pedagogical practice, where they show themselves to be thoughtful and creative people. Then our meetings happen during the defense of Master’s theses devoted to the different aspects of teaching Russian as a foreign language. It is a place for serious discussions, caused not only by various and pretty interesting themes of graduation works, but also methodological elaboration. I would like to note that by the moment of defense of their theses, many Master’s Degree students have already had the experience of independent teaching activity in the sphere of Russian as a foreign language, that’s why their researches are often based on their own methodological developments. That’s why it is always pleasant to see on the defense those who you can call your colleague for a good reason.
This is, however, not the end of our professional communication: graduates of this Master’s Degree programme have an opportunity to continue their scientific and methodological search in postgraduate studies, with the defense of PhD thesis after it (on one of such defenses I performed as an official opponent); practicing colleagues make textbooks and study guides on Russian as a foreign language (and then I write reviews on them). All this is telling about the depth of knowledge gained here, as well as about a thorough skill of methodic self-analysis.
In a nutshell, everybody who is connected with the Master’s Degree programme ‘Russian as a Foreign Language’ are constantly in a creative research, in infinite action towards interesting and breathtaking process of teaching foreigners the Russian language, Russian culture, basics of Russian mentality.

The review of a field expert on a Master’s Degree programme ‘Russian as a Foreign Language’ (main field of study ‘Philology’)
Master’s Degree programme ‘Russian as a Foreign Language’ at Dostoevsky Omsk State University is a programme for future teachers who would be able to develop their own online-courses on Russian, especially courses for the children of emigrated Russians. It is extremely important nowadays, when Russian communities outside Russia are actively involved in the Russian educational process and the demand for distance courses is constantly growing.
The aim of the Master’s Degree programme ‘Russian as a Foreign Language’ that is carried out at Dostoevsky Omsk State University – to train highly qualified specialists in current field of teaching Russian as a foreign language needed both on Russian and world educational market. These specialists must be ready to build a professional path in any Russian university having bilingual students. Since 2019 one of the graduate students of this Master’s Degree programme has been teaching “Russian Language and Culture of Speech” at Yugra State University. One of her students is a future graduate student with specialization “Construction”, who came in Khanty-Mansiysk from Zambia.
My 5-year experience of working as an expert and as a member of the committee on awarding the status of “native speaker” to the migrants in Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug – Yugra shows that there is still a plenty amount of lacunas in contemporary legislation of the Russian Federation concerning carrying out a complex interview. Graduate students of Master’s Degree programme ‘Russian as a Foreign Language’ from Dostoevsky Omsk State University definitely can join the research of the methodological and scientific problems’ data.
